Meet Our Regional Board
Mark Edelstein, President
Mark Edelstein is ecstatic to serve as the NFTY-GER President for the 5776-5777 year. He hails from SHATY in River Edge, NJ where he's a senior in High school. Last year, he served as your Membership VP and loved every second of it. He’s a proud alumnus of Urban Mitzvah Corps and the URJ Kutz Camp. Other than embracing his Judaism, he loves shopping at Kohls, watching Netflix until 3:00am, and eating sushi until he regrets how much he ate.
Marissa Klass, Programming Vice President
Marissa Klass is overjoyed to be the PVP of NFTY-GER for the 5776-5777 school year! She is a junior who resides in Marlboro, New Jersey, and loves her temple youth group RTSY! Marissa had an absolute blast attending the URJ Kutz Camp ‘15 and Urban Mitzvah Corps ‘16 this past summer! She dabbles in the fine art of bike riding, enjoys moderate walks on the beach, reading books, writing poetry, running her club to help the homeless, and being a proud member of NFTY-GER!
Emma Rothman, Social Action Vice President
Emma Rothman is a proud member of her TYG SPICY, a Mitzvah Corps alumni, and a supporter of her state's Hero Act. Now entering her senior year of high school, Emma spends most of her time being excited about Earth's beauty or playing a mean game of tennis. And on the rare occasions when she isn't eating Ben & Jerry's ice cream, Emma can be found lying in the sun dreaming about swimming with sharks and surfing in Australia. A huge music appreciator and lover of the little things in life, Emma is always ready for a new adventure.
Tali Abraham, Religious & Cultural Vice President
Tali Abraham is a senior from Central New Jersey. You can usually find her singing something - whether it's Jewish music, Disney tunes, or something she heard on the radio. She absolutely loves the way that a whole pot of mushrooms and onions cook down to nothing and the moment when harmonies finally click together. She's glad she has the opportunity to bring her song leading experience and ruach to GER board this year.
Gavin Burns, Membership Vice President
My name is Gavin Burns and I am super excited to be your Membership Vice President! When not at a NFTY event you could find me meeting new people, wrestling for my school, or face-timing my awesome NFTY friends! I enjoy meeting new people, and attending TYG events. NFTY is a fantastic organization that has shaped my life.
Adam Frank, Northern Recruitment Vice President
Adam Frank is a Junior from Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ. He is the former president of OBOY and was NFTY-GER’s 5775-5776 co-New Member Chair. He loves coming to NFTY-GER events and meeting new people. Adam has spent 7 summers at URJ Camp Harlam (and only won color war once) and this past summer participated in Urban Mitzvah Corps. In his spare time, Adam enjoys making overly-sarcastic comments and obscure SpongeBob references, as well as realizing he doesn't know how to end his bio.
Lauren Plattman, Central Recruitment Vice President
Lauren Plattman is so excited to serve as NFTY-GER's Central Recruitment Vice President. She comes from TEWTY in Westfield, NJ but actually lives a few miles down the road in Berkeley Heights, NJ. Lauren is happy to be spending her junior year on board as well as being the stage manager at school and being in the Diller Teen Fellow's program. When Lauren isn't running around, she loves eating food with her friends, making films, and watching Netflix non-stop for hours.
Courtney Aptaker, Southern Recruitment Vice President
Courtney Aptaker is a senior in high school. Before becoming the SRVP of GER she was on her TYG, SMaRTY's board. When she isn't doing something Jewish she is either with kids or working at Dunkin Donuts. She loves to travel and can't decide which was more incredible, seeing the Northern Lights or her Bat Miztvah on Masada. When she finally has some free time, she's with family, friends, or at the beach.
Carli Mathias, Communications Vice President
Carli Mathias is pumped to serve as the Communications Vice President this year. She is a senior from Suffern, New York, home to the world's best bagels. She is a proud alum of UMC ‘15 and Kutz ‘16. Carli is a thumb war champion and long time lover of strawberries. Additionally, Carli thoroughly enjoys painting, discovering new music on Spotify, telling cringe-worthy jokes, and drinking chai tea.
NFTY Garden Empire Region is governed by a board of teen leaders who are elected by their peers that serve a one-year term. Regional board members play a critical role in all aspects of running the region including event planning and marketing, and mentoring teen leaders from our local youth communities. The regional board is mentored by a Regional Director of Youth Engagement who oversees all programs and administration.
